preparations

8 September 2012

.

slowly but surely...we now have a 'corner' in the living room for the baby stuff. The cot is an old one we purchased from a lovely lady in Sussex. We'll move it into our bedroom when the time comes. I made some sheets for it with some vintage fabric and bought a new mattress for it too.

I have been collecting some wooden toys, this duck wobbles its head side to side when pulled along.

Nao has been painting like mad, we recently picked up this wooden draw thing from the market, and he gave it a makeover. Perfect for keeping all that baby bum cleaning equipment...

and below is my stash of second hand washable nappies. I'll see how it goes with these!

another recent find is this tiny wooden chest of drawers, also painted by Nao.

This book is blimmin funny, I don't think the kid will get it, but it makes me laugh anyways.

and another repainted cupboard! full of snot & puke cloths

and clothes of course...

So yes I think we are pretty good to go now, still have a month or so yet though, blimey.
We found out last week that the babe decided to turn upside down! That means that if it stays like that, I'll have to be cut open, holy crap! So I am doing all possible to coax this babe into the favourable 'head down' position by doing all kinds of bizarre exercises and acupuncture and bouncing on a huge ball. Very amusing! I think it is just swimming about in circles now...so its on the naughty step as soon as it comes out. Just found out that husbondo Nao was also breech for a while when he was a babe, so I guess it will take after him!

Apart from that all is good, I feel look like a whale, but a very fat one. I just roll about from one place to the next, moaning and groaning..all good fun! Absolutely cant wait to meet this belly squatter in the real life, so now i'm just wishing for a safe and healthy delivery, x

  1. Well, it sounds as though you're as ready as you'll ever be, though let's hope that baby turns back round before the big day! Good luck with it all, it's a crazy, magical journey. Rachel xx

  2. Belly squatter, that's too funny. Best to get a book that makes you laugh since you'll likely have to read it eleventy times before you're through! Everything looks wonderful.

  3. I'm due in a month and breach too! Maybe its written in the stars for October babies!
My husbands mum gave me his wicker crib that he had when he was a baby, she's an upholsterer and so gave it a good make over! Your baby corner looks great...

Good Luck! and looking forward to reading more post on baby!

  4. Good luck. Prepare yourself for more laundry than you could ever imagine such a little thing could produce and those wonderfully surreal, fuzzy headed night time feedings. They will feel like out of body experiences, but so blissful as you cuddle that tiny little munchkin.

You are a strong and lovely lady, and you will do fine. Giving birth takes grit, and you have loads of that. However baby appears you can handle it. Enjoy. x

  7. Beautiful, beautiful things - love the cupboard and cot. My second baby was breech right up to the last minute, she turned at about 37 weeks - I remember lying in bed feeling her go. It felt like laundry going round in a washing machine!

  11. Everything looks so lovely, now you just need to add a baby!! One of the best things I was given were handmade bum wipes. My aunty made them from old flannelette sheets, squares sewn together so double thickness. Wet and wipe, then into the nappy bucket and use again! S:)

  17. Such beautiful beautiful things!! What a lucky baby!
I agree with Sally, washables wipes are wonderful, I bought the jacksons ones, but didn't use them, I used water and cotton wool to begin with then made my own washable wipes from some jersey cotton (Here is my tutorial:http://serendipitychild.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/re-usable-wet-wipes-tutorial.html.
Hope the cloth nappies work for you, failing that, I have found the naturecare biodegradable ones very good. (My baby draw looked just like yours actually, same nappies, wipes and bath thermometer!)

  19. It's so crummy to hear everyone's lame advice while you are pregnant, but thought I'd share since I walked that road! :) My second was breech, and it sounds like you are doing all the same things I did. Since you are in a large city, you might look for a chiropractor who is experienced in "The Webster Technique." We did it and my baby went all kinds of crazy trying to move around! Also, not all is lost. Even if you are a month from your due date, your babe can still flip around. My husband was breech right up until his mother went into labor, and then he flipped right around! It can happen! :) Good luck to you! Those last days are always the hardest. Hang in there! You'll be holding your beautiful baby soon!!! :)

I admire you and Nao for sticking to your artistic ideals with all of the preparation. It shows--every little detail is so lovingly chosen and warm.

Oh, and I was just playing with those same little German(?) village pieces with my 4-year-old niece the other day. She likes them better than plastic legos, happy to say!

My mother told me that if she was to give birth again she would choose a c-section. After having children the natural way, she always pees a little when she laughs or jumps around (something I have heard a lot of women say), so even if the baby doesn't turn around, it might be a good thing.

Snot & puke cloths for the belly squatter LOL love it :D My mom used cloth nappies with both me and my sister in the early 80's..the disposable ones are so toxic to the environment, but i don't know if i could ever deal with using cloth nappies..eek...love your vintage moses basket crib its just lovely!

  35. Just a tip on the reusable nappies (I'm sure you've already looked into this though). Lambeth do a reusable nappy trial pack for free. Just call the number on this link. http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/Services/Environment/RubbishWasteRecycling/Recycling/LambethRealNappyTrialPacks.htm
They've just come back in and they deliver them to your house. Im getting mine tomorrow.
Good luck with the last few weeks. I have one week to go and am looking forward to my rust wedding ring actually fitting again! x
