Winter approaching

Why does November go so quickly?! It's the busiest time of the year for me in the run up to xmas, but I also need to get xmas ready for the children too.
This year I am hoping to get our tree earlier...forward planning is the key I think!
I have been working on a few diamond ring orders this week, so I have made a little video of the process. you can see this over on my jewellery journal here
I am aiming to have a few new things to add to the website before xmas, Evergreen Bracelet and a stunning grey diamond that I am making into a ring at the moment.
Very exciting!
It is not easy juggling materials cost with sample making, the gold price is so high now, I can't afford to keep as much stock unfortunately, but I am making to order within a couple of weeks. Please order ahead of time if you wish to purchase something for xmas.

In Memoriam

My friend died this time last year. She was 43. We had been friends since childhood. The last time I saw her she was showing me her garden and all the things she had been growing from seed, and her vegetable patch. She loved nature and looked after any injured birds that would happen to pass her garden. When I picture her, in my mind, I can see and hear her telling me about what she is going to do next in her garden.
She died very suddenly last May, due to a blood clot in her brain. It is still very hard to come to terms with that her death was unnecessary. We miss her greatly.
Shortly after, I collected some flowers from her garden, flowers that she had been showing me in bud, excitement at things beginning to bloom. Plants she had looked after everyday. I pressed them in a book, and recently I made them into some pictures.
I took lots of photos of them, as I know the colours will fade over time. I didn't mean the black one to look morbid, just that the colours of the flowers showed up better on a dark background.
That excerpt is from a longer poem the author wrote about his friend who also died suddenly from a brain haemorrhage age 22. My home looks over the Tennyson Downs near to where he lived, so it seemed apt to quote it here.
May is a beautiful month and I am very grateful to be around to enjoy it. Marie, I picked these for you.
Jewellery update

I have been working on a few new things for my jewellery company lately, I will be focusing on some more expensive range of precious stones set in 18ct gold, including diamonds and sapphires.
It gives me such a joy to create something using these amazing stones.

Paper birds

I haven't had much time this year to make anything creative for one reason or another, but I made some paper birds with my daughter for the xmas dinner table today. I originally made these a few years ago for our jewellery shop window, see here, and I had one left that I used to take a template.
They are easy and quick to make, and you can make them out of all kinds of paper and card, different sizes and species of birds, I made a seagull here too.
You will need some wire or string if hanging up, I only had this one, but it's better if you use white wire (I had some previously from a cake decorating supplier or florist might have it too) as this dark wire shows through the paper. If you are making crows then fine.
I used cartridge paper for these white ones, and I recommend using a biodegradable glitter (e.g. this one) if you want them glittery.

They are so easy, you don't really need any instructions! But I have been asked many times before so I made a quick template. You should be able to copy the image and then print it to what ever size you need. Mine measured 8.5cm from beak to tail, but I'm not sure how big this image is (?).
I cut about 8 pieces in one go because I'm lazy. Just fold the rectangle like a concertina, glue it to both tail sides and then glue the body part together (with the wire or string or whatever to hang it from) leaving the wings to fold down.

I'm so happy to finally be able to launch my new (very small i.e. just me!) jewellery company. After quite a few set backs along the way, it took a little longer than I had hoped but considering we are in lockdown, I think it's okay. It has been so good to be working at a jewellery bench again, as over the years I have been doing less and less of that which I miss. I hope you will like to see what I have been up to in the last few months (since April). I have also started a little journal on the website where I aim to updated ideas, jewellery related projects and news etc.
Btw, you may recognise my lockdown model (It had to be either me or Pehr).
