Mr. Wolf's house

6 February 2014

It's been a busy last few weeks for us one way or another, and the weather is very uninspiring.
Any spare time I get, I'm in my shed eating Jaffa Cakes.
I have been collecting lots of new materials and tools and paints and all sorts.
One of the things I always wanted when I was a tot, was my very own doll's house. Although I didn't really like dolls, I always had some small animal type character that I wanted to house.
I always thought doll's houses were really expensive, but I found this one for about £13 on ebay. I thought I could do some decorating to make it more atmospheric for our kiddo's fave toy...Mr.Wolf.
Winter forest dwelling. I got busy in my shed cutting up old books, fabric and got out some paint and started reliving my youff.

I had the idea to make a fireplace with a battery powered tea light. I modelled it on a Swedish style fireplace like these ones the light flickers like a real fire!

I tried to imagine if I was a wolf, what kind of wallpaper would I like?

he has a cup of tea in front of the fire in his rocking chair, or he lies in his deck chair in the 'garden room', what a life.

Of course our little'un is too small to play with it and I am too big to play with it, so somewhere in the middle we both have a jolly good time with it ; )

Changing the subject somewhat, I am so happy with my shed that has been resurrected from the mouldy slimy snail poo covered pile of wood in the garden, back to my nice clean dry and warm shed...such a relief! It involved a lot of sealant, undercoat and white paint! I have yet to repaint the outside of it due to the ton of water falling out of the sky all day every day, but when I have I will post some pictures of it. It's not that different to last time but it's a bit more functional and has tools and things in it. I would stay in there every day if I could.

I hope all you UK peeps are surviving?...it's a bit flooded down here on the Island but our house is ok luckily, as we are quite sheltered from the sea.

I always look so forward to your posts... they are the best of any blog I've ever been a reader of.
By the way, could you teach an online course on how to be just like you? ;)
Thanks for the time you put into your posts. They are loved!

  5. Oh Artemis, this is soooooooooooooooo adorable! This is my first message to you despite the fact that I have been reading your blog for a long time now. Pehr is a lucky little girl. Please keep posting such beautiful pictures of simple luxury and precious moments.
I was lucky enough to visit the Isle of White once in my life but today I live overseas. I miss Europe but thanks to your blog, I see a bit of it! The other day, I was in a thrift store, looking at a mountain painting and thinking of your collection wondering if you would like it or not. I am sure you have plenty of silent readers like me. Thank you, thank you to the 3 of you. It is a pleasure to pay a virtual visit!

    Best,

    Emmanuelle

Glad your house is ok Artemis! The Isle of Man has been battered and there is more to come but our house is high up so we've avoided most of it. Love Mr Wolf's house :o) Jen, islandbluebird.com

  9. The Scandinavian fireplace looks so real. I loved my doll's house. My granddad made it for me when I was five. Had batteries and little light bulbs. It was my treasure.

  13. Looks like it has been an uninspiring beginning of the new year for a lot of people! And way too much rain here as well!! I'm trying to go back to blogging and forcing myself to be as creative as I can, but this weather really doesn't help. The house looks wonderful. I always wanted a dolls house as wel, but yep, they're so expensive! I tried to build myself one a few years ago, with some boxes and a few wooden panles...but I live with too many cats to have empy boxes around the house to play with!!

  15. Looks awesome, what fun! We are about half a mile from the flooding, but it shouldn't affect us. Pretty sick of the wet though.

  16. I want to live in Mr Wolf's house, cosy and simple. Is he Swedish? I am a junkaholique too, always buying bits of old second-hand stuff, which is lovely and exciting, but I dream of having less... just a cool chair, a book and a lamp!

  19. I just love your dolls house. Like you I always wanted a dolls house when I was little and it was having my grand daughter that spurred me on to make one. My husband built me the wooden shell which I have decorated and furnished, and I also bought a kit and furnished one as a beach hut complete with bunting made for me by a kind lady, and bought and home made accessories and furniture. Once you start, it is a life long love. I too have a special hut in my garden. In retirement, I am in my second childhood. I only wish I'd have made time and found these passions earlier for my two children. Pehr will be a very inspired little person. I just adore looking at your blog. Thanks so much.

  20. I have a version of this house made by Plan Toys and bought, I think, from Tridias in the 1980s. I never thought to decorate it, but perhaps now, with a grandchild on the way, you have inspired me.

  21. What a clever lady you are, it's fabulous! My wolf would love those wallpapers so I'm sure the little'un's wolf will too. Hurrah for no flooding, thankfully I live on a hill here in Wales as the river at the bottom of it has not been inside the lines for a couple of months now!
