Poems and Pictures

25 October 2021

I have been reading some poems lately, although I do read grown up books occasionally, I have to admit that my favourite poems are from this children's collection. I think it is the combination of simplicity and naivety of the subjects, they are short...and also the beautiful illustrations.
I have a lot whirling around in my brain constantly like a carousel, things from half a life time ago even, unresolvable or sad events. So I'm really trying to focus on all the good stuff instead.
I'm also trying to read books but I find my mind wandering off and then I forget what I was reading. Hopeless!
I had the idea to print some of the pages I like onto some handmade paper that I collected for jewellery photos. It worked pretty well and I stuck them up all over the place.

In other news, I'm making lots of jewellery, it's a busy month ahead!

  1. What a wonderful thing to do… I think this may be my favourite post of yours ever. I write a lot of poetry but I’ve never thought to do this. Thank you for the constant inspiration.

  2. Lovely as always. A whirlwind mind takes comfort in the well-known and well-worn.

A very beautiful idea. I did this once, but on a regular paper and it was not as nice, thank you for the inspiration!

  4. Absolutely beautiful. I love children’s poems and books too! Especially all the illustrations. There’s an illustrator named Yuvall Zommer. I adore his work. I think P&L would love the books too. ✨

  5. There's something very familiar about my book. I must have seen it or similar illustrations in my childhood. I love that you have thought of printing them on handmade paper. The prints and your light are complementary and beautiful.

  6. Oh, I love John Clare. What a beautiful idea. I once stitched a favourite Kathleen Jamie poem into a blanket just because I wanted to sit with the words for a (very) long time.
