I couldn't have imagined two more completely different characters to be related, but, they do get on so I'm thanking my lucky stars for that. I'm more similar to my son in personality, and my daughter and I are a clash like a head on car crash. It is very wearing. She is amazing and very good and agreeable to everyone except me, whom she likes to drill down in a scarily methodical manner. She is more than her years.
However, we have a very similar dry sense of humour, and comedy is the most highest form of human bonding is it not? Many bridges have been rebuilt between us thanks to a good old laugh.

The stories of her and her brother's birth seem to go down very well, and are often asked for. The more gruesome or pain inflicting for me, the better (I fabricate a lot of it). She loves anything to do with smelly bottoms as well. I make up stories about them called 'Farty and Burpy' and she almost passes out from laughing.

She can be serious if she tries really hard.

This is the most exciting mode of transport at the moment. I did break into a sweat whilst pulling this thing up the cycle track.

My friend and I managed to break free of our kids for an evening and head off to our local beach with pizza and wine. Talking about a whole ton of life stuff whilst occasionally stopping to hear the waves hit the sand. very nice!

  1. Oh, I just loved and laughed reading this; especially the part about laughing about smelly bottoms. In fact, when i was a kid, i used to love to talk about just that. My children, who are now grown and several neices and nephews nicknamed me "auntie bum talk", when they were young children. Enjoy every single minute with those beautiful children...i hate to say it, but i know you know....they grow so fast. I am already looking forward to my grandchildren....one day. :)

  2. What a delight your children are. You will have your hands full when hilarious little girl becomes a teen.
You picnic on the beach looked so nice and you certainly deserved it. I do so look forward to your posts.

  3. I was exhausted just looking at the kids and their antics! How did I ever raise three birth children and six foster kids and live to tell about it! I think I'm glad it's someone else's turn now. Glad you do get breaks..you deserve them. Love your kids, they are so cute.

  4. Oh my, I can certainly understand the exhaustion of parenting fierce girls- my eldest is almost 18 and her younger sister is 8!! So many dramas and angry words but we muddle along with love and humour. I like to think they are building themselves up to fight off all the aggro life will throw their way😂😂😂.

  5. Mimi has been asking me to tell her stories from my life at different ages. The other night she asked for 21. I told her how when I turned 21 my friends had a surprise party for me. I came home (not realizing 20 people were hiding around the house) and walked straight to the bathroom and continued to talk (about everyone hiding in the house) to my two roommates at the top of my lungs while sitting in the toilet with the door wide open. I walked out and my roommates were dying laughing and then everyone jumped out and (awkwardly) yelled “Surprise!” and I literally almost collapsed with surprise and embarrassment. Amelia had the most horrified look on her face at the idea that I went to the bathroom pretty much in front of everyone I knew. She has asked me about it every day since I told her.

  6. I love that!!!! It is hilarious how they love to hear things over and over if it caused you pain/fear/embarrassment what’s that about?? ☺️ I think it’s important though, so I go with it xxx

  9. My sister has been teaching her daughter (15 months) how to make animal noises, and recently has added in the question, 'what noise does Daddy's bottom make?' to which Daisy will grin rather furtively and then blow a raspberry, and the two of them will laugh and laugh. It's very sweet, if rather unkind to my brother in law haha. This made me think a little of that...

  10. My trick when things got ugly was to start feverishly searching for lovely (insert name here) who was lost. I would ask for help from said child to look under tables and pillows to see who could find them first. That broke the confrontation, provided a distracting activity, and gave them the time they needed to transform themselves into their lovely version who could emerge from under the table, to be greeted with relief and joy at having been found again.
