spring munching

11 May 2014

We've owned our house for about 8 months now, and finally we got around to having a bit of a housewarming lunch. We are so lucky to have met some lovely neighbours and locals, so we invited a very nice couple to lunch who are currently converting a local disused Victorian train station into a cafe.
As we are pretty crap at culinary activities, we stuck to salads and picnic food, but it was very nice and we had a little bit of sun...eventually.

I made a salad with fried asparagus, peas, feta and mint, and a tomato and mozzarella salad and Nao made mackerel pate, chocolate ice cream and lemon sorbet.

thankfully we had quite a lot of alcohol to consume, which distracted from the lack of actual cooking somewhat.

the sun came out for a few minutes so we managed to have Nao's ice cream on our new garden table and benches, all very exciting for us ; )

and our garden is coming on nicely, some plants I have managed not to kill...

...yet.

  1. Your table looks delightful and the food, colourful and appetizing. I don't think you will manage to kill Aquilegia's and Foxgloves, they self-sow all over the place.

  12. Food looks nice but boy do I wish I had a disused Victorian train station (and some carriages) that would be a dream come true and solve alot of problems (work space, home etc) I don't usually do envy - cant be bothered, but those neighbours of yours....

  14. Nice! That reminds me, been in this Vancouver home for about three years now and keep meaning to have a housewarming. Maybe it just has to be a get-together party now...lol. Just wanted to mention, only because I get the sense you don't know certain plants...but maybe you do... for you to be careful of the digitalis around the little nipper. Highly toxic...stops hearts, too pretty to resist wearing as gloves, fairy hats and like. She mustn't eat it. :)

  15. Thanks! I think everything in our garden that the rabbits haven't eaten is toxic! Foxgloves grow everywhere here in th uk so we have to teach our kids not to eat anything without checking first or don't leave them alone. I didn't die when I was a toddler, it must be a miracle ; )
