tiny clothes

14 April 2013

Been feeling a bit stitchy lately as you can probably tell. This is pretty much turning into a sewing blog
these days! I'm learning as I go and Im really getting into making things. Yesterday I set about making a summer wardrobe for my offsprig. I chopped up an old tshirt dress and made some ickle trousers...

and I made a smock dress out of cotton...

I tried a few new 'techniques' like pin tucks, gathered pockets and made my own bias binding (I must be watching too much Great British Sewing Bee).

Its open at the back like the wool one I made before

Im quite chuffed with it, as I didn't use a pattern, and its actually quite neat for me.

I bought a pack of plain cheap babygrows to do stuff with as well. This one got a pocket. The others Im planning to dye and paint, oh yes!

I do love a pocket.

Ive been making a few toys too. I made a whole bunch of these critter, but the ones I made from cotton fabric turned out like mutants, these two made from old wool jumpers turned out ok though, even though I scorched them with the iron (sewing in the dark is not a good idea).

My Offsprig likes to eat the ears.

I'm doing some other bits and bobs too, which I'll show you later on hopefully ; )

  1. Oh my.. what lovely stuff you've made as usual! Love the little trousers in particular. And the fabric is just beautiful - is it all Liberty?

Well, she is gonna look one cute little lady in them... nice work!

  6. Sewing in the dark can be exciting but I suggest ironing with at least a pen light available or even one of those sexy reading headlamps. The critters look very sweet and I bet even the mutants have tasty ears. (My kids always want to wear my sewing goof ups and then I have to explain to people I have to lie to people, 'no, I did not sew that.')

Pintucks and gathers are my favorites. I love your tiny smock.

  8. Cute! I love the smock dress. Good for you without a pattern!! I did up some onesies (vests, I think they're called here?) with cut outs of tulips on one and a kite out of liberty fabric on another and I Have some fabric cut for pockets ready to go for a few of them as well. Saw Nao today when I went to pick up Lois at nursery and said hi to him :)

    1. Thanks! Gold & diamonds are a lot more profitable than tiny clothes and mutant animals ; ) Think I would go nuts sewing stock for a shop...no fun in that for me.
Its lovely to make things for my tot though x

I love this blog! I stumbled across it by accident looking at sheds and actually read the whole thing. Everything you do is adorable. When my young ones were young I did the same thing with the little t-shirts. Since you make such cute animals, I'd make an applique to match and stitch it onto her little shirt. And you're so right about being a mommy and it all coming naturally. I was terrified until the baby came and then it seemed like I'd been doing it all my life. That's that maternal instinct I guess. Happy Birthday to your baby girl!
