DIY baby - part 2

9 June 2012

.
Not much to show for today's efforts to be honest. I thought I'd have a break from sewing this weekend, and try some ideas for a mobile for the tot's cot. I had a bit of inspiration from a birthday card that we saw in the morning, and I decided to have a go at making a seagull to hang from the mobile above the cot.

I drew a rough outline of what I thought a seagull looks like. Cut out two at the same time...
and stick them together and then you can bend down the wings like thus...

and after a splodge of paint, it looked like this...

but I think I'll make a mobile some other way, as maybe seagulls aren't colourful enough for babies. I'll make something out of felt instead...hmm...I'll see.

anyways, even though this seagull project required my bum to be on the sofa the whole time, it still tired me out for the rest of the day.

  1. While you had your bum on the sofa, you're still busy building a baby so you are so allowed to be tired! :) Love your seagull!

  2. It's really lovely Artemis. Actually babies only see black, white and grey in any detail to begin with, so your seagull is perfect. xx

  4. you're so talented Artemis, if I'd ever attempt at any of these things I would make a giant mess, instead look what you put together!

  6. If you use shirring elastic instead of string it will bounce up and down and possibly flap its wings. It looks a pretty accurate rendition of a seagull to me.

  8. Your seagull is fabulous! I understand your urge for colour, I always love brights for babies - they find high contrasts stimulating so a mix of colours with black and white is great. And being pregnant is so tiring - don't ever forget, even when you're 'doing nothing', you're growing a person! Rachel :)

  10. I love the seagull - it will get baby dreaming about crossing over to the Isle of Wight and your wonderful camping trips. Sweet dreams!
Lots of feet up, tea & cake is the order of the day when making a baby and anything for the baby x

Your seagull is so sweet, definitely nicer than the usual plastic mobiles for babies!

Ohhh I see I did read your mind :)) fantastic!! What a super lovely seagull! So pretty and elegant. Birds are always so friendly looking aren't they? I remember as a small kid having a big painting of a goose on the wall (made by my mum). The colors yellow, white and black were so soothing. x
