winter solstice 2016

21 December 2016

The shortest day of the year has arrived, so it's time to light the candles and get the logs in!
In the old days before central heating and fridges, people would be celebrating the fact they and their animals, had survived through the deepest depths of winter and the days would now be getting warmer.
I think there is lots to celebrate in this day and age too. What I love about it, is that everyone is included in the solstice celebrations...we are all animals and we all need the warmth of the sun to stay alive and that is that! Something to join us all together like glue? I hope so xx

P.S. I wrote a little bit about my thoughts on this HERE too, if you haven't already seen it 😊

  1. I always have a little celebration for winter solstice as well. Starting tomorrow the days will start to become longer, the light will win over the dark...In Italy the coldest days have yet to arrive, January and February are the coldest months, but there is more light and it's enough for me!

  2. We celebrate our longest day summer solstice on the 21st of December in Australia, Australian Aborigines are very close to Mother earth and have dream time stories that are passed down through generations they know how to respect the land, I feel we could learn from there ways and dreaming.
