tiny tot's indoor camping

1 July 2016

We haven't had much free time of late what with one thing and another, and the summer is quickly passing us by. We haven't been camping yet this summer, the weather has not been very enticing in the UK and we have been just too knackered! We are working on our caravan a couple of days a week (whenever we get a spare few hours) so that we can go camping in it straight away. I think it will be a few weeks before it is ready.
I recently bought one of these canvas teepees that I keep seeing everywhere. I like the idea that they are so quick to put up (and take down once the tots are bored of it). The littluns had an afternoon of indoor camping which they seemed to enjoy.

I gave her some led candles, kindling and some log cushions for fire making.
Our three month old really loved watching his big sister.

After dinner around the campfire, it was story time.

...and then amazingly, they both fell asleep for 3.5 hours. Think we'll be doing this again!

In other news, we tried weaving,

but she got bored after three rows : |

...and played with googly eyes instead.

  1. Were going away for the first time with Liam (who's 7 weeks old but was 6 weeks early) in 2 weeks time. Not in the camper sadly but in the caravan. We felt we needed a bit more room with a baby a toddler and all the stuff that follows them. Will let you know how we get on! Love the camp fire!! X

  4. My parents gave our son a kids tent when he was three (he's now near 30 and will be a parent himself in November). He overnight camped all over the house in it for years. I think it instilled his life long love for camping and backpacking. He and his wife hammock camp 6 months out of the year. Your LED campfire is brilliant! This Grandma to be is filing that idea away for a few years down the road. Thank you!

  5. Thank you for these beautiful photographs of your beautiful, beautiful children. It has been an emotionally draining week - I also appreciated your previous post very much - and they brought a much needed smile to my face!

  8. Oh wow that is such a fantastic idea!! And the weaving too! My grandmother used to have a loom that took up almost the entire dining room and I used to love having a go on that. Your kids are so cute, isn't it amazing watching them interact as they get a bit older.

  9. Little L is looking so big already! It's so sweet that they spend time together like that. I remember when my little brother was born...he was like a big living doll to me, I absolutely loved him and read books to him just like that! So sweet.

What did you use for your weaving material? It almost looks like "yarn" made out of t-shirt fabric. Very cool! My mom wove a kitchen rug from old t-shirts once and it was so soft and washable. I might have to give that a try.

  10. Hehe those googly eyes made me giggle! I love the log cushions, where did you find those? Looks like you had a lovely afternoon - and a 3 and a half hour nap is pretty impressive! x
