saving the summer
26 July 2014
I have been trying to preserve some of the flowers from our first summer in our house. I know that pressing flowers properly requires waiting over two weeks, but I am impatient about these things and can't wait that long. So I zapped them in the microwave.
I dried off the flowers a bit on some kitchen towel and then pressed them for about 30 mins in a flowers press.
once squashed, I took out the blotting paper sandwiches and put them on a dish, and then put another large dish on top of them and put them in the microwave for about 2-3mins.
Its a bit hit and miss, some flowers seem to lose all their colour, others go see through, and some just don't look very nice, so it's worth trying a few different flowers.
I found the yellow daisy types, geraniums and dark coloured sweet peas came out the best.
Littlun is soooo obsessed with 'wowers' she loves watering them and sniffing them, and when she saw the picture I made, she wouldn't let go of it! This resulted in level 9.5 tantrum.
I think I will appreciate this flower picture in the deepest depths of January.

We decided to start selling the hydrangeas that are taking over our garden. So far no takers : ( Wonder what else I might try and sell?
Fowey - Cornwall
25 July 2014
Our last day in Cornwall. Last year we had a lovely time in Polruan and Fowey, so we decided to spend a bit of time mooching around, looking and shops, having some lunch and take another boat trip! this time down the river Fowey.
the most desirable residence I have ever seen!
the littleun had a toddler sized pasty in a little passage near the water, it wasn't long before we had some friends...
So thats the end of our holiday adventure posts, I hope they haven't been too boring...I just want to have these posts as a diary of what we did.
Happy times x.
Helford River - Cornwall
Another side of Cornwall (and the part I'm more familiar with) are the rivers and creeks such as Helford. It's very nice change after all the rocks and crashing waves...
...very peaceful indeed.
we had lunch in a pub overlooking the water, before visiting Gweek Seal Sanctury. The littlun seemed to enjoy 3 of the £1 (!!!) operated boat ride. doh!
we made it to the campsite, in Lansallos, and ummed and ahhed about staying longer (we only planned a four day trip!). Littlun ate more nectarines.
We decided to stay one night and visit Fowey again, and stay at Dartmoor on the way back home.
The Lizard - Cornwall
Nipper ran so fast down the pathway to the cove, with sandals flying off every two seconds.
a proper fishing cove, with fish guts and all!
later that day, I pretended to be a donkey and climb down the hill to Kynance Cove with a small human attached to me.
the tide was up when we arrived (there is a nice unusual beach around the corner at low tide) but it gave us enough time for a spot of lunch and a cup of tea.
finally , after the nipper played endlessly with sand and her shovel, and scaled vertical rocky cliffs, we waded through the fairly choppy sea to the other side.
I think she thought she'd arrived in some kind of toddler heaven.
then a rather hefty hike back to our home.
and a certain someone's new vehicle.
