Some bits and bobs we bought for our kiddo...because we are big kids ourselves, we couldn't resist these.
I love making things for our nipper, but its nice to buy a few things too.
The Crocodile Nao and I bought in the Liberty Kids sale at half price,  although its a bit big for Pehr at the moments. The Bear speakers are great for playing woodland and sea sounds to hypnotise her to sleep, and Beatrix Potter downloaded on my phone. In case you didn't know, the RSPB soft birds make different bird calls when you squeeze them. The pants don't seem to be available online, but they have them at Liberty's, they cost about £12ish, I don't think I could make them for that price!
And a knitted pear for Pehr naturally.

I grew up in a pretty poor household, so I love to buy and make nice things for my daughter, in fact I'd rather go shopping for her than buy anything for myself...what is happening to me?

  1. I love the pants! There are so many kids clothes that I wish were in adult sizes ;)

  2. pehr seems to have inherited your exquisite taste! unfortunately our entire house is filling up with rather less aesthetically pleasing toys and kiddo paraphernalia. sigh. very little of it was bought by us, most was inherited or received as gifts. i actually worry about the effect of having so much STUFF. 'simplicity parenting' by kim john payne is an interesting book on the subject. good luck stemming the tide of plastic! x

    1. Im lucky that my friends and family know we don't like too much plastic gumph generally (because of this blog probably!).
I grew up in a very basic house, no money and three older brothers. Its nice for children to have SOME nice things + love and attention.
I think parenting is very simple...just love them and keep them safe as possible.

  3. It happens to us all... I never thought I'd be like it either, but now I have to physically stop myself always heading for the kids section in the shop. Especially nowadays there so many lovely things for kids. Have fun! (But remember she probably couldn't care less about any of it!) :)

    1. ha ha! yes Im the same, even before I had a baby!
She loves her birds, rattles and things though, but yes you could make a rattle out of plastic bottle and some beans, but that wouldn't look very nice, right? ; )

  4. I too would like some liberty pants haha! The little pear for little Pehr is cute, and I love the house print on the cushion. We will definitely be having a no plastic tat rule once we have kids...I think they end up with so much 'stuff' they don't realise what it is to really appreciate something beautiful! xxx

  6. I'm afraid the plastic creeps in!!!! I am the same about buying/making things for my two boys! It is so exciting! We should put ourselves first but it just doesn't happen! I seem to be spending a small fortune on kids' shoes at the moment now my oldest is in school(Has to have black school shoes/plimsoles for inside sport/trainers for outside/wellies and also shoes for home.) And I am going to work wearing shoes that have holes in the soles!!! I just don't have the time or money to buy myself new ones... It's all great fun though!!!!

I know what you mean... now that we're expecting I can't think of anything I want but I have a list of things I would love for the baby!

    Cute crocodile, too!

  8. It is easy to control the plastic, especially at first. Our children had lots of wooden toys. We do love lego and p,any mobile though, although mow smallest is growing out of that and it is electronic goods that rock his world *sigh*. I think babies deserve beautiful things, they are so beautiful themselves, and mamas deserve to look and plat with beautiful toys to. And papas!

Haha, so normal! I hardly ever go shopping for myself anymore (and used to be addicted). Buying stuff for the kids is much more fun and playful (and no more fitting sessions in cramped rooms). Ava

  17. I think you have the makings of a new blog there! Lovely stuff. Lovelier than anything available for my little ones twenty something years ago. Early Learning Centres were about the best we had. And they were a sea of plastic. I made a lot of things myself, but not very well.

  18. When I was pregnant with our first daughter, someone who understands my upbringing (not much money). Said to me, please buy your children new things too, it will do you both good! Our daughters have what I didn't two parents who love them to pieces. But also a mum that is thrifty but also treats them, I love that we can! You are balancing handmade, finds and wonderful treats xxxx

I love your blog Artemis, it's so refreshing and beautiful. And you are managing to keep it that way even now Pehr is here to distract you and bring her own brand of mess and chaos!

With 5 siblings I hardly got anything new, but I have a Liberty dress (from 1980) that my mum saved for my daughter. She's wearing it these days. Love the liberty bloomers!
