making stuff in my shed...

.
I've had two lovely days in my shed sewing and pottering about.
I also made a nappy changing wallet thingy.
and a pillow to go with the quilt...
I'm planning to make some more toys next...I think I'm getting carried away a bit, no?
I've had two lovely days in my shed sewing and pottering about.
I finally put up my new shelf/drawer thing, which I found in Paris flea market for 2 euros {that's like £1.70 right?} My mister repainted it for me. In the jars are some bits that I also bought at said market. I'm liking those tiny pom poms...I'm sure they will come in handy one day.
...some new bits from Liberty's.
so, anyways, I was thinking to make a small quilt, never done it before as I heard they can take years to make, and as I am an impatient sew-er, I thought I'd take a few short cuts ; )
this book is quite good, it makes good reference for the different patterned fabrics that Liberty do, and a few nice ideas in there too. The fabrics I used are a bit of a mixture of Liberty print/vintage/Indian etc...
cutting up squares was tedious. The size of the quilt is the exact size of my patience, so it was quite small.
I sewed them all into strips and ironed them flat. I usually give up on sewing projects that involve ironing and pinning, so I'm quite chuffed that I kept going with this.
tah-dah!....
a quilt for a tot's cot...
on the back is more print fabric and its quite squishy for putting on the floor. Its not perfect but it was made by moi.
I also made a nappy changing wallet thingy.
its made out of wool felt.
and a pillow to go with the quilt...
and a quilted cushion, with 1930s silk on the back and at the edge...
I'm planning to make some more toys next...I think I'm getting carried away a bit, no?

We found this tricycle {technically its a quad bike I think} in the market a while ago, and even though its not suitable for a baby, we bought it anyways. The mister got to work respraying it and giving it thorough make-over...
he sanded and waxed the seat, and put wee bell on it, that will surely drive us nuts in about 2 years time.
he also transformed this grubby old tool box, into...
....an art box, with crayons, pencils, paints and a sketch pad. Quite handy for camping trips to come in the future right? We'll have to wait a while before the bub can use these obviously, but nothing wrong with preparations eh!
mean while...summer is over here in Blighty and the heating has been on twice : (
a work in progress

I have been getting some serious 'pooter eyes lately, tackling a whole new template for my vintage shop. I know nothing about css & html, whatever they mean...so its a bit of a learning curve.
I'm quite fussy about making templates simple and will spend 24 hours trying to line-up something that probably no one will even notice.
Anyways, its not finished yet, and even I still have to load up lots of new vintage items that I have stashed away. I think it wont happen for a while yet. So quite a boring post really!
This pic is for the front page, which I'm still working on...by the way ; )
DIY BABY - Part 7
16 September 2012
.
I made these today. Squishy, jingly cubes x 5...I'm hoping the tot will like?
I used wool felt and scraps of patterned fabric {the print is layered up with felt to make the thickness even}. I did them really quickly in my shed, as I tend not to stray too far from the sofa these days...so admittedly they could have been a bit neater. Anyways, from a distance they look ok, I don't think tot is going to care less.
I had to use something to put the bells inside and I thought of kinder egg yolks. They worked a treat, the only trouble is that I'm now left with lots of chocolate and some plastic toys to assemble. Oh woe...
Some good news to those who read my last post, the babe has heard my threats of the naughty step, and has flipped 180 into the correct position, it was only breech for about 2 days thank goodness {well, actually, thanks to my lovely midwife for suggesting lots of funny stuff, that actually worked!} . Me hopes it will stay that way until eviction day.
Other than that, all is well...its just a waiting game now, so trying to make the most of our last quiet days.
preparations

slowly but surely...we now have a 'corner' in the living room for the baby stuff. The cot is an old one we purchased from a lovely lady in Sussex. We'll move it into our bedroom when the time comes. I made some sheets for it with some vintage fabric and bought a new mattress for it too.
I have been collecting some wooden toys, this duck wobbles its head side to side when pulled along.
Nao has been painting like mad, we recently picked up this wooden draw thing from the market, and he gave it a makeover. Perfect for keeping all that baby bum cleaning equipment...
and below is my stash of second hand washable nappies. I'll see how it goes with these!
another recent find is this tiny wooden chest of drawers, also painted by Nao.
This book is blimmin funny, I don't think the kid will get it, but it makes me laugh anyways.
and another repainted cupboard! full of snot & puke cloths
and clothes of course...
So yes I think we are pretty good to go now, still have a month or so yet though, blimey.
We found out last week that the babe decided to turn upside down! That means that if it stays like that, I'll have to be cut open, holy crap! So I am doing all possible to coax this babe into the favourable 'head down' position by doing all kinds of bizarre exercises and acupuncture and bouncing on a huge ball. Very amusing! I think it is just swimming about in circles now...so its on the naughty step as soon as it comes out. Just found out that husbondo Nao was also breech for a while when he was a babe, so I guess it will take after him!
Apart from that all is good, I feel look like a whale, but a very fat one. I just roll about from one place to the next, moaning and groaning..all good fun! Absolutely cant wait to meet this belly squatter in the real life, so now i'm just wishing for a safe and healthy delivery, x
