oh no!

.

We woke up today to the news we always dread hearing. Nao's hometown in Miyagi, near Sendai, has been hit by a massive earthquake and following tsunami.
Until we know everyone is 100% safe, our hearts are in our stomachs!
I can't imagine the horror to find your town, business and homes, and all that is familiar and comforting, completely devastated.
I feel very lucky indeed to know that I probably never will have to experience anything like that, but sadly for my husbondo, this is the reality.
The noodle bar, the fishing boats in the harbour, the little temple and the Shark museum, I fear may be no longer : (

My love and bestest wishes to everyone there, I hope you are all safe and Junkaholique is thinking of you every second! X

  3. I know exactly how you feel. Christchurch is my home town... try e-mailing friends and family, sometimes that is still available while phone lines are down or blocked. Hope you hear from your friends and family soon and can have some peace of mind that they are safe.

    Dear Junkaholiques,

First time ever posting a comment here, though I have been following your blog for months now. Feel sorry to do so in such a difficult time for both of you, but at least I wanted to offer my sympathy to both of you. I too have anxiously been waiting for news from family and friends in Tokyo. I hope tomorrow will bring in reassuring news about Nao's family. My thoughts are with you!

We believe Nao's family are ok, but don't know for sure yet. I feel very bad for Nao, it must be heartbreaking.

  54. Hello Artemis...I don't think I have commented on your blog before though I have been enjoying it since before your wedding. I'm Irish ...living In Osaka with my Japanese husband and 4 children. My brother lives in Wales with his Japanese wife...who is from Wakabayashi in Sendai. Her family home is damaged at least ...maybe destroyed but she managed to get through to her Mum's cell phone. I sent her a link so that she could see the NHK news online....Nao probably already knows about it ...but just in case here it is

I hope that Nao's family will be found safe ...many people are in school gyms and community halls cut off from the outside.
Hold each other tight and keep hoping.

I'm sending prayers and good energy to you, your husband, his family, friends and country. Living through Hurricane Katrina and experiencing the destruction and rebuilding process was horrendous and I hate to know that anything like that is happening to anyone.

My thoughts and best wishes are with you!

I have been following the news all weekend, even though I've no close relations in Japan (just a number of acquaintances in addition to a general cultural admiration), and it does indeed seem to keep unfolding. I sincerely hope things start to turn for the better soon, and my humble sympathy goes out to anyone affected.
