it's a beautiful world

It works! If you saw my last post, you'll know what I'm going on about! I love anything that glows, but especially something as interesting as the world! I love it so much! I had to buy new fuse and find a special type of 'sign' 15watt pygmy bayonet bulb...this was not easy, but in the end, S&M Tools (no sniggering!) on Leather Lane, did not let me down. That shop has everything...if they don't have it, you don't need it!
Now I can relax with a cup of tea, and say hello to a few places in the world...

Hello Marie & Blaise in Scotland!

Hello Nao in Tokyo! (He is there till the end of the month, sniff sniff) He is to go up to a place near to 'Sendai' soon, where his home town is. Do you see it?

Made in Italy! A bit random me thinks? in the 80s, before everything was made in China, things were made all over the place, even in Britain, I kid you not!

It's the world that is also a lamp, and I think it is the bee's knees!

*UPDATE* I found a great website that helps you date your globe, see here My illuminating globe turns out to be made in 1978, same age as me! It's amazing how much the world has changed in my lifetime.

  1. Brilliant! I love it!

  2. Wow, I'm pretty sure that's the same model my parents had, in the late 80's/early 90's (don't know what happened to it). I always loved it!

  3. Sian, yes it is funny to see things from the past that were really familiar!
I am interested in dating the globe, so far I have found Yugoslavia (till 1992), Burma (till 1989) and Rhodesia which became Zimbabwe in 1979! But it looks more like mid-80s to me. Confusing!

  4. This makes me feel so nostalgic. I remember getting one for my 10th birthday. The late 80's. I wonder if my parents still have it. Photo's are lovely. L x

  5. Seriously? That's what the shop is called? I bet they get some phone calls! So glad you could track down the bulb. Enjoy! xx

  6. We had a globe that was also a lamp when I was growing up and I loved it SO MUCH. I don't know where it is now but I might have to start looking for one too.

  7. Amazing! My friend has a light-up globe just like that... I love the way it lights up :)
